How do I get my child baptized at St. Thomas More?
Congratulations on your new arrival!
Please call the office at your earliest convenience. There is some paperwork to do and also a class to attend.
Who May be Baptized?
Children of parishioners of St. Thomas More. There must be a well-founded hope that the parents will raise the child Catholic.
What are the requirements to become a Godparent?
It is customary to have two Godparents, however only one is required for baptism. A Godparent may be either male or female. If two Godparents are chosen, one must be male and one female. A Godparent must be a fully initiated Roman Catholic (baptized, confirmed, and receiving the Eucharist), and at least sixteen years of age.
They must lead a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken. (They must be attending Sunday Mass and, if married, their marriage must be sacramental. They may not be cohabiting with a partner.) They must not be the father or mother of the one to be baptized.
Can a non-Catholic be a Godparent?
A baptized non-Catholic may be chosen as a Christian witness provided there is at least one Catholic Godparent.
The Godparent(s) I have chosen live out of town and cannot be here for the baptism. How do we handle this?
Two other people can stand in as proxy but the actual Godparents you have chosen will be recorded in the sacrament record book.
Is there a fee for Baptism?
St. Thomas More does not charge for Baptisms.
